How we built our sawmill shed Woodmizer LT15 Wide Sawmill, Wood

I designed, engineered and built my own bandsaw sawmill from scratch along with a vacuum kiln and a hydrostatic skidder. The sawmill cuts 54" in diameter at 12 feet long for hardwood, mainly. Blade guide rollers, bearings, v-belts and pulleys, hydraulic cylinders, valves, motors, 20hp electric motor and 3ph generator.

There are 8 upright posts of 6 x 6 x 18' white oak set in groups of 4, 6 feet square 24 feet apart (2 feet set down in concrete). The cross members are 3 x 8 white oaks 24 and 16 feet long that make up the upper frame work.

Make the door opening to the mill at least two feet wider than the longest log you can saw and 12 feet high. No matter how big you make the saw shed it will be too small. I would pour the pad 16 feet wide as a min and 12 feet longer then the mill. If you cannot afford the concrete then just work off of a crushed stone pad.

The horizontal blade on this bandsaw mill is creating a wide board from the center of a pine log. Since it is mounted on a trailer, this type of mill can be towed to a job site.. thinking vertical reverse board and batten siding with live edges but will have to see how I like using it on a small shed project first before committing to use it.

The first thing to do is to clear the 15' x 25' area you will be building the shed on. Make sure you have easy access to electricity and air if you plan to use an air-nailer. Once the area is clear, dig in your patio blocks so as to provide raised shoes on which to place the skids and subsequently build the shed.
